Hi everyone! Since you're all asking: you can get your own travel map at www.TravBuddy.com
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your travel maps!
I know you wrote this a while ago, but I have one question that I'd really appreciate if you answered. If you had to give an amount..how much would a person have saved up, before they take a journey like you have. I mean I want to travel for as long as you have. I know once I start, I won't be able to stop.
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI can't really answer that questions for you because I think each traveler is unique with their own unique travel styles. It really depends on the type of travel you do and more importantly, WHERE you travel.
I saved up around $25K before I left NYC and it's lasted me this long because I had living arrangements in Istanbul for 7 months, I did a lot of Couchsurfing while I traveled (a great way to meet locals and make new friends), I LOVE eating local street food, I usually don't spend too much on drinking and partying (a MAJOR budget buster) and I don't spend too much money on shopping (once you start carrying your worldly possessions, you start rethinking everything you buy so it's not as hard as some people may think).
I know people who have traveled for over three years on $5K and I know people who can very easily spend over $25K on a two week vacation.
I think the important thing to consider when you start planning a major trip is what your IDEAL travel situation is and base your budget around that.
If you have any specific questions, please feel free to email me. I'm happy to help as much as I can!
